Most of Auckland's unique places and major attractions are within half an hour
of the central city. Whether you rent a car, catch a bus or board a ferry,
you'll quickly be where you want to be.
Auckland airport is 21km south-west of the city centre. A free shuttle service
operates between the international and domestic terminals. The Airbus Shuttle
runs a scheduled service every 20 minutes between the airport and Downtown
Auckland and calls at most major hotels. The approximate cost is $13 per person.
Door-to-door shuttles also operate to and from the airport for approximately
$15 for one person and $20 for two. A taxi to/from the airport will cost around
$40.
With someone in the passenger's seat to navigate, driving yourself to the
city or around Auckland is quite straightforward. You can rent almost any type
of vehicle, from budget compacts to stylish convertibles. There are plenty
of rental car companies within a 10 minute stroll of the downtown area. If
you're not collecting your rental car at the airport, catch a taxi or book
yourself onto an airport shuttle bus. Ask at the Visitor Information Centre.
